Prompt

Design and build a website for a small business. It could be your own business, or it could be for a friend, or you could make up a fictional business. The website should be custom designed and have four to five pages that are all linked with consistent navigation. It should have features and imagery that is consistent with the needs of the business. Your design should be appropriate for a specific set of users within the context of something those users are likely to use or enjoy using. Responsive design is optional for this project.

Requirements

Design: Think about who the site is for. Who are the customers of this website and for this business and what is going to appeal to them? Think about the information these people need and make sure it is easy to find.
Development: Use what you have learned in class and make clean, semantic HTML and CSS that would be easy to untangle by someone else, or if you came back to the project in a year. Keep your coding neat and consistent.
File Management: Keep all your files organized and in the proper folders. Follow naming conventions, and make sure images have been optimized for the web.

My Process

I knew I wanted to create a project that was fun and be something I enjoyed making so I decided to make a website for a non-profit pet adoption place. The purpose of the website is to promote adoption and get animals into homes and the audience for it is people looking to adopt pets (specifically cats and/or dogs). In order to come up with content and see what pages I would need to add to the website, I looked at a multitude of pet adoption websites (such as HappyTails). Additionally, I had to make sure to use photos without copyright (which would create issues) so I created a Google Form for my friends and fellow classmates to fill out where they could submit photos of their pets, their pet's age, and a short blurb of their pet's personality. Then, I developed the design of the website in Figma and created the logo in Adobe Illustrator. After the design was created, I coded the website using HTML and CSS in Visual Studio Code.
